Eco-Cultural Explorations
A 4-day experience to the breathtaking and unforgettable scenarios of the extreme white vastness of the Uyuni Salt Flat, the biggest Salt Flat on earth! We combine this adventure with a spectacular connection to the highest city in the world, La Paz, where you can continue your travel.
Explore the pristine nature, Andean culture, and impressive landscapes, immersed in the biggest Salt Flat on our planet, crossing through solitary lagoons, National Parks, flamingo-filled lagoons, driving along the Salt Crust, visiting isolated Andean villages, sleeping at the base village of the highest mountain in Bolivia, and much more! An expedition you will never forget.
After breakfast, we will meet you at your lodging in San Pedro de Atacama (8:00 am) to drive up into the highlands of Bolivia. On the way, we will have the opportunity to see very closely the mighty Licancabur and Juriques Volcanoes (5,916 mts and 5,600 mts). Once entering Bolivia, we will visit the beautiful White and Green Lagoons, surrounded by fantastic sights of the Andes Volcanic Mountain Chain.
From here, we will continue until we arrive at the silent Valley of “Salvador Dali,” where we will be fascinated by unbelievable landscapes similar to the paintings of this famous artist. In the afternoon, after a delicious outdoor lunch, we will arrive at the “Colorada” Lagoon, with an astonishing red color. Here, we can observe three different types of flamingos in the same place where they reproduce and develop. We will continue our overland exploration, visiting the beautiful Valley of Rocks, where we can find volcanic formations sculpted by centuries of wind, immersed in a unique rock labyrinth. We will stop at the viewpoint of the active Volcano Ollague, with its summit at 6,050 meters above sea level.
We will continue through this isolated desert scenario, passing several typical Andean villages such as Alota, Chubica, and San Cristobal until we finally reach the city of Uyuni (lodging in comfortable hotels included).
Includes: Mineral water & outdoor lunch.
After breakfast (8:30 am), we will explore in-depth the incredible Uyuni Salt Flat. We will drive over the salt crust in a fascinating traverse that promises unforgettable views of this unique place. Further on, we will visit the famous Inca Huasi Island (not possible if the Salt Flat is flooded), where many endemic species of cacti, plants, and birds are found, and of course, a 360º view of the immense Salt Flat.
Continuing our exploration, we will drive to the small village of Colchani, where the inhabitants of the borders of the Salt Flat produce and pack edible salt for sale, as well as salt blocks used as building materials. In the afternoon, we will return to rest at our hotel.
Includes: Mineral water, breakfast & outdoor lunch.
After breakfast (8:30 am), we will leave the basin of the Uyuni Salt Flat to engage in a multicolored traverse through the Bolivian Altiplano (High Plateau), crossing through the departments of Potosi and entering the area of Oruro. Oruro is known for hosting one of the biggest carnivals in the world, Andean style, where thousands of people dance all the typical dances of Bolivia, such as Tinkus, Sayas, Morenadas, and many others, parading through the streets of this normally busy city in February.
From Oruro City, we will continue traveling into the wilder High Plateau landscape until we reach the small isolated Andean village of Sajama, immersed in the National Park of Nevado Sajama (6,050 meters), at the base of the highest mountain in Bolivia. In this unique and wonderful place, we will visit the local hot springs at the base of the spectacular snow-crowned Parinacota Volcano (6,380 meters) before we head to rest at a small local lodge (basic accommodation) for a well-deserved sleep. We shall arrive at the village of Sajama in the afternoon.
