San Pedro de Atacama, the Uyuni Salt Flat, the majestic La Paz city, the famous Death Road in the jungle of Coroico, and much more, in an unforgettable Overland journey that covers both northern Chile and some of the most fascinating areas of Bolivia!

Upon arrival at the Airport of Calama, you will be welcomed by your Atacama Experience team. From there, we will drive to the Oasis of San Pedro de Atacama (approximately one and a half hours driving time).

Note: We recommend arrival flights not later than 13:00 hrs for this program proposal.

In the afternoon (15:00 hrs), we will explore the vast desert, engaging in a horseback riding traverse (Beginner level), through the Salt Mountain Range with 360-degree views over this unique landscape. We will travel and learn about the fascinating culture and history of the Atacama Desert to start this incredible adventure. In the late afternoon, we will enjoy a cocktail at sunset. We shall return to San Pedro de Atacama at approximately 19:30 hrs.

Early in the morning (8:00 am), we will depart in our 4WD vehicles towards the fascinating Pre-Mountain Range and Andean Highlands, experiencing the diverse nature, flora, and fauna of the Atacama Desert. Our adventure will start through an old mining road, visiting diverse scenarios such as the wetlands of the Putana Lagoon and the isolated Machuca Village.

We will continue into the high plateau or highlands towards the crater of one of the highest volcanoes in the area, the holy Sairecabur, which stands at 6,050 meters high. We will reach the altitude of 5,500 meters in the crater of this massive volcano, promising unforgettable views over the desert and even into the neighboring country of Bolivia.

We shall return to San Pedro de Atacama at approximately 16:30 hrs.

Very early in the morning (5:00 AM), our route will start through an old mining road, until we reach the altitude of 4.350 meters above sea level, where the Tatio Geysers will show us its magnificence. In the Tatio, we will be able to observe different geothermal formations, and its exuberant Flora and Fauna with animals such as Vicuñas, Vizcachas and Guayatas. After an incredible sunrise, and exploration of the Geyser field, we will have the chance to swim in the thermal pools near by. We will have breakfast surrounded by this breathtaking landscape. Further on, our route will guide us through High Plateau, until arriving to the small village of Machuca (view point), where only 5 inhabitants live. On the way back, we will also have the chance to observe endemic Cactus, known as Equinopsis Atacamensis, which we will find in a small oasis named Guatin.

In the late morning (11:00 am), we will continue, to the Oasis of Guatin, where we will begin an unforgettable Trekking through the Cactus Valley, and Pre-Mountain Range of the Andes (2 to 3 hours of soft Trekking). We will ascend slowly through the slopes, where we will find a great number of medicinal plants, and of course, impressive sights of the Volcanoes that rise over 5.000 meters over the sea level. After a 3 hour (approximate) Trek, we will reach the unforgettable Puritama Hot Springs, where we can enjoy a relaxing bath in the natural thermal pools.

The healing water off the Hot Springs, have temperatures that oscillate between 30º and 35º degrees Celsius. Here we will also enjoy a delicious Outdoor lunch. The infrastructure of the Hot Springs, offers dressing rooms, picnic area, bathrooms, and easy access to the pools. We will return to San Pedro de Atacama the early afternoon (16:00 hrs approximately).

In the morning (9:00 am), we will drive south, to find between majestic mountain chains, the beautiful Andean village of Toconao, known for its warm and friendly inhabitants, textiles, and incredible way of cultivating the desert. This Village is mainly built with volcanic Liparita rocks. From here, we shall continue to the impressive Atacama Salt Flat, the third biggest in the world, where three species of flamingos, and other aquatic birds feed, and refuge in this unique and isolated ecosystem.

We will continue our way, driving up the international road towards the Sico Pass (Argentina), climbing gradually into the High Plateau, with incredible sights of the volcanic mountain range. On the way, we will pass by the little farmer’s village of Socaire, filled with terrace plantations, until we arrive to the impressive High Plateau Lagoons, Miscanti and Miñiques at 4.350 meters above sea level. Surrounded by volcanos and fantastic panoramic views, we will be able to contemplate the bio-diversity of this area, and the different altitude levels we have gone through. 
We will continue to the Talar Salt Flat and Piedras Rojas Site, to enjoy a breathtaking landscape from a unique view point.

We shall return to San Pedro in the Afternoon (16:00 Hrs).

In the evening, starting at 22:30 hrs (in English), you will initiate an unforgettable astronomical circuit, departing from San Pedro de Atacama (Your Hotel), to an area where there is total absence of artificial light. We will reach the astronomical facilities, where one can learn about the ancient and modern astronomy.

We will have the opportunity to observe the stars through telescopes, in a clean and cloudless sky, in the unique Atacama Desert, the best place in the world for stargazing.

Includes: Hot Beverage, Wine, Snacks, Transportation from and to your lodging.

After breakfast, we will meet you at your Lodging in San Pedro de Atacama (8:00 am), to drive up into the highlands of Bolivia. On the way we will have the opportunity to see very closely, the mighty Licancabur, and Juriques Volcanoes (5916 mts and 5600 mts). Once entering in Bolivia, we will visit the beautiful White and Green Lagoons, surrounded by fantastic sights of the Andes Volcanic Mountain Chain. From here we will continue, until we arrive to the silent Valley of “Salvador Dali”, where we will be fascinated by unbelievable landscapes, similar to the paintings of this famous artist. On the way, we will also visit the breathtaking Sol de Mañana Geysers.

In the afternoon after a delicious Outdoor lunch, we will arrive to the “Colorada” Lagoon, with an astonishing red color. Here we can observe three different types of flamingos, in the same place where they reproduce and develop. We will also visit the famous Stone Tree, Crafted and carved by the wind, through centuries. Before reaching our Accommodation, in the small Andean Village of Villa Mar, or San Juan (Depending on Lodging availability), we will be able to enjoy the sight of beautiful Lagoons as well as an astonishing High Plateau Landscape (Lodging included).

From our Lodging in the Village of Villa Mar, we will continue our Overland exploration, visiting the beautiful Valley of rocks, where we can find volcanic formations, sculpted by centuries of wind, immersed in a unique rock labyrinth. We will stop at the view point of the active Volcano Ollague, with its summit at 6050 meters over the sea level.

We will continue through this isolated desert scenario, with a technical stop, for our Outdoor Lunch at the Turquiri or Black Lagoon. In the afternoon, after passing several typical Andean Villages, such as Alota, Chubica and San Cristobal, we will finally reach the City of Uyuni. Accommodation in comfortable Hotel.

After breakfast (8:30 am) we will explore in depth the Uyuni Salt Flat. We will drive over the Salt crust in a fascinating traverse that promises unforgettable views of this unique place. Further on we will visit the famous Inca Huasi island (not possible if the Salt Flat is flooded), where many endemic species of cactus, plants, and birds are found, and of course, a 360º site of the Salt Flat.

Continuing our exploration, we will drive to the small village of Colchani where the inhabitants of the borders of the Salt Flat, produce, and sell eatable salt for local and national consumption, as well as Salt blocks for building material.

In the afternoon we will return to rest to your Hotel.

In the morning, transfer from your hotel in Uyuni to the local Airport, for an early flight to La Paz. At arrival, we will settle in our Hotel, for a short rest. We will go down town for an exquisite local lunch, and afterwards, we will visit different impressive locations of this diverse Andean City.

We will visit the unique Moon Valley, deployed in the middle of the city, as well as many viewpoints of El Alto (highest areas of the City), main square, and many other interesting spots. We shall return to rest, at our Hotel in the afternoon. Accommodation in a comfortable Hotel.

Early in the morning, after breakfast (8:00 am), we will drive from our lodging, to a part of La Paz, where our unforgettable Mountain Bike adventure will begin. We will drive into the High Plateau, where we will put on our gear, and grab our double suspension Mountain Bikes, for a unique ride down one of the most famous Mountain Bike trails in the world. At arrival in a special location, and starting point of the Death Road experience, each person will take a Mountain Bike, the necessary equipment, and be taught on all the security measures they need to know before the descent to the village of Coroico.

The geographical features of this tour are very special, because from the beginning of the tour, we have to ascend up to a point known as “La Cumbre,” at 4,700 meters, a place surrounded by unique beauty in a mountainous area. Riding down La Cumbre, we will descend 3,500 meters, downhill in approximately 3 to 4 hours. The nature contrast is really impressive! As we finish the ride, we get to a semi-tropical village known as Yolosa at 1,180 meters. From here we will drive to our Hotel in the Village of Coroico in the middle of the Jungle known as the High Jungas.

Option A: Coroico – Canyoning – La Paz

After breakfast (9:00 am), we will drive to the departure point of a unique Canyoning experience through Bolivia’s Jungle. Canyoning is an exciting, and fun activity that involves rappelling down waterfalls to pass from one end of a canyon to the other. This is a beginner-level trip that is suitable for all abilities. This canyoning tour is in Coroico. Duration is 4 hours including a 30-minute transfer from Coroico to the starting point. Finishing this adventure, we will drive back to La Paz to your Hotel (2 hours and a half driving time to La Paz).

 

Option B: Coroico – Via Ferrata – La Paz

After breakfast (9:00 am), we will start this fascinating adventure, driving to one of the most impressive routes in the North of Bolivia, in the Yungas region of La Paz, at 3,000 metres above sea level. The circuit begins rappelling down a 15-meter drop and crossing a 30-meter-long Tibetan bridge. Then, there is a 300-meter climb with the help of metal steps, and a steel wire for safety (Via Ferrata), followed by an exciting 100-meter long descent by zip-line, flying over an incredibly beautiful scenery, on the world’s highest zipline. The route ends with a 30-meter rappel. After lunch, we will drive back to La Paz to your Hotel. (2 hours and a half driving time to La Paz).
