Eco-Cultural Explorations
Experience the Atacama Desert in a 4-day adventure, visiting the unforgettable destinations and highlights of San Pedro de Atacama, its fascinating clear night sky, the unique flora & fauna, as well as its history and culture; immersed in the magical and unforgettable landscapes of the most arid desert on Earth.
At your arrival to the Airport of Calama, you will be welcomed by your Atacama Experience team. From there, we will drive to the Oasis of San Pedro de Atacama (one hour and a half driving time approximately).

Note: We recommend arrival flights arriving not later than 13:00 hrs for this program proposal.
In the afternoon (15:00 hrs), we shall move to the famous Moon Valley. Here we will contemplate the diverse colours of the desert, tectonic plates, and millenary dunes. This area will impress us with its unusual moon landscape and beautiful geographic formations. Further on, we will continue to the Great Dune, the Amphitheatre viewpoint, as well as the Tres Marias Natural Monument, to observe the different geological formations, salt crystals, and much more of the fascinating uniqueness of the Salt Mountain Range. We shall return to San Pedro de Atacama at approximately 20:00 hrs.

In the morning (08:30 am), we will drive from San Pedro de Atacama to the Hierbas Buenas Site, a place where three mountain chains meet. Here we will find ancient petroglyphs and archaeological sites from different pre-Columbian indigenous cultures. From here, we will continue to the unforgettable & beautiful Rainbow Valley, named due to its multi-coloured and diverse tectonic layers exposed after centuries of strong earthquakes, floods, and wind.

In the evening (starting time: between 21:00 or 22:00 in English), you will initiate an unforgettable astronomical circuit, departing from your lodging in San Pedro de Atacama, to an area where there is total absence of artificial light. We will reach the astronomical facilities, where we will learn about ancient and modern astronomy, and also have the opportunity to observe the stars through telescopes in the unique Atacama Desert.

In the morning (9:00 am), we will drive south to visit the Andean village of Toconao. From here, we shall continue to the impressive Atacama Salt Flat, the third biggest in the world, where three species of flamingos, as well as other Andean birds, feed and take refuge. We will continue our way, driving up the international road towards the Sico Pass (Argentina), passing through the village of Socaire and arriving at the impressive High Plateau Lagoons, Miscanti and Miñiques at 4,350 meters above sea level. We will then visit the Talar Salt Flat and Piedras Rojas viewpoint.

Very early in the morning (5:00 am), we will take an old sulfur mining road until we reach 4,350 meters above sea level, where the Tatio Geysers will show us their magnificence. Here we will observe geothermal formations, diverse flora and fauna, and unique prehistoric plants growing in the boiling water of the geysers.

After a fascinating Atacama Experience, we will depart from your hotel to the Airport of Calama, on time for your departure flight.
